Why I chose to be a VISTA
I chose to be a VISTA because I wanted the opportunity to give back to my community, while performing in an environment that allowed me to target specific areas of improvement in the Hamilton County area.
What I do
I am the VISTA Coordinator responsible with dispersing materials as well as information into the community about opioid awareness through the CLD approach of counting medications, locking up medications, and dropping off unused and unwanted medications.
What I like about it
I like that I’m able to provide aid to the community from an approach that had not received focus or the necessary attention in prior years
What I don’t like about it
I don’t like that I only have a few months left of the contract to continue helping people through the CLD company. The experience has been rewarding and what I have learned while working is priceless.
My plans for after my service
My plans after service may include obtaining my Juris Doctorate if I am unable to find work in 6 months. Until then, I will attempt to take advantage of the AmeriCorps programs that allow me to apply non-competitively for federal jobs.
