A dark room, soft music, and a sensory deprivation tank…?
You might be thinking, how are those three items going to help me pursue wellness? We’re glad you asked!
Today we’ll be talking about Floatation Therapy, what it is, where you can check it out and how it helps in your journey to overall wellness.
So, let’s get started.
What is Floatation Therapy?
Floatation therapy or “floating” is a zero-gravity sensory deprivation tank that allows the mind and body to relax and reset. Each tank is full of 1,000 pounds of Epsom Salts that allows your body to be completely buoyant. It eliminates the forces of gravity pulling on your body which can relieve pain, improve sleep and reduce anxiety.
How Floatation Therapy Helps in Pursuing Wellness
Floating has 3 major factors that provide benefits to you as you float. They are:
- Epsom salt (magnesium and Sulphur)
- Stimulation reduction
- Gravity reduction
This combination helps provide benefits and an extremely relaxing environment to the floater. You can find stories from countless people who experience incredible results and benefits from floating while more and more research is still being done to prove the actual efficacy of float therapy.
Research is being done on issues like:
- Hypertension
- Chronic tension headaches
- Chronic muscle tension pain in the back and neck
- Stress-related pain
- Generalized anxiety disorder
- Post-Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic pain
- Insomnia
- And more
Where can you float?
Floatation centers are still making their way into our communities, but you can find a few here in Tennessee and other areas across the country.
If you are in the Middle Tennessee area, we highly recommend you check out Float Nashville and Float Alchemy in Murfreesboro. These folks are absolutely wonderful and are a partner of Count It! Lock It! Drop It!
Float Alchemy’s co-owner, Amy Grimes, has been a speaker for CLD’s Pursuing Wellness Conference and has an incredible personal story involving float therapy. Be sure to tell her we sent you if you visit!
We hope you enjoyed learning more about floating, a new and different way to help bring a little more wellness into your life.
