During this uncertain time with the COVID-19 events, it is important to take care of your mental health! Mental health is just as important as physical health and we should not forget that in a time like this.
As someone who often feels anxious in times of uncertainty, one tool I often use is to separate the things that are happening around me in categories of things I can and cannot control. I found a helpful breakdown of current events happening around this pandemic posted by thecounselingteacher.com and I found it to be very helpful. See below:
Things I can control (Things I will focus on)
- My attitude towards these events
- Turning off the news when I need a break
- How I follow the CDC recommendations
- My own social distancing
- My kindness and grace
- Limiting my time on social media
- Finding fun things to do at home
Things I Cannot Control (Things I will let go of)
- If others follow the rules social distancing
- The actions of others
- The amount of toilet paper, other products at the store
- How long this will last
- Predicting what will happen
- How others react
It brings me peace of mind knowing that I am doing all that I can, to do my part in a situation. We will continue to post mental wellness tips and tricks as this continues. Remember: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
